Best Amazon Prime TV shows (May 2018): great series to watch today
Amazon Prime membership doesn’t just guarantee super fast deliveries on all of your Amazon orders. It also gives you instant access to lots of great TV shows, which you can stream anytime via Amazon Prime Video.
But, as is the case with many online streaming services, there are lots of mediocre options on Amazon Prime Video, as well as lots of truly terrible ones, which we’d prefer you didn’t waste your time on.
That’s why we’re here to help you make that all important decision about what to binge watch this weekend and what to skip. We’ve collected together a big selection of TV shows for you to choose from, including new series through to Amazon’s own original shows.
In our guide you’ll discover our pick of the best Amazon Prime TV shows that are currently on offer. We have options for comedy lovers, fans of thrillers and those who love nothing more than a fantasy police drama.
[Update: This week the new season of The Good Fight is available on Amazon (you do have to pay for it though) so it’s worth catching up on the first great season of this super compelling law drama all over again, which is available for free on Amazon Prime Video. The latest season of You Are Wanted also lands on Amazon this week, a German cyber thriller that’s guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.]
Amazon has been home-growing titles itself over the past few years, which are called Amazon Originals or Amazon Original Series.
These Amazon TV shows are arguably some of the best that the Amazon Prime Video service has to offer (think The Tick and Transparent), which you can watch instantly when you have Amazon Prime access. There are many more shows you can watch through Amazon, but some of these have to be purchased in order for you to start streaming.
We’ll be keeping this list constantly updated – if any paid shows become free that we feel need to be included, they’ll be added too. Scroll through to see our picks that we’ve divided up into the following categories: drama, comedy and thriller.
If you can only watch one…
We like a dark twist on the superhero genre as much as the next person, and The Tick delivers it: it’s about an accountant with mental health issues, who may or may not be a superhero – it could all be in his head. Peter Serafinowicz is the eponymous Tick, and despite that rather sombre-sounding plot outline, this is a black and surreal comedy worth seeking out.
The first half of the first season of The Tick has been on Amazon Prime since 2017, but as of March 2018 the second half is here too and it manages to be even more baffling, entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny than the first.
